Green Paint Down on Molle Street Bike Lanes in Hobart

July 25, 2010

The paint is down on Molle St and the Hobart City Council has done a stellar job to include bicycle users in the street improvements. I rode the lanes the other day and was very impressed with the increases in my perception of safety from the speeding cars. The speed limit will soon be reduced to 50km/hr which will be a massive win for a better Hobart.

Nice one. Hopefully there are more to come! I certainly appreciate the lanes, they make it fast and safe to get around on a bike. Shame most roads were not designed with this in mind…

As a regular commuter cyclist I travel up Molle St turning left into Goulburn St and feel the potential safety gained by the cycle lane is lost by allowing vehicle parking where the cycle lane narrows to a car width outside the “Production Works” office. This is nicely illustrated in the third photo looking down Molle St.
